Texture vs. Material

I am a bit confused regarding applying texture to a piece of furniture (for arguments sake say a plain box). If I select the box, open modify furniture, then select texture then a texture is applied to every surface of the box, and the texture pattern is tiled across the surface. I do get strange effects on the side of the box (I am using a tile roof pattern).

If I go into Materials->Modify and apply the texture to two sides of the box the texture is not tiled but is stretched to fit the side of the box. Resizing the box causes the texture to stretch along with the side.

Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Texture vs. Material

You did nothing wrong. It's the way textures behave on the default box and you described it very well.
