confused How to make a mirror ball?

I want to get it, not just a shiny ceramic one, but a mirror ball, like polished metal, with reflections like in a curved mirror. I transferred the entire MTL file of the mirror to the MTL file of the vase. Nothing is working out. It turns out just ceramics with highlights. What needs to be done? Maybe this is impossible in principle? Is the mirror in SH3d only on straight surfaces?

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Did you try the sweethome3d_window_mirror_ prefix I mentioned in your other post? As stated there you should put it in the OBJ file, not the MTL file:
g sweethome3d_window_mirror_myvase_1
v ...

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Try it with this MTL:

newmtl Vase
illum 1
Ka 0.2 0.2 0.2
Kd 1.0 1.0 1.0
Ks 0.0078125 0.0078125 0.0078125
Ns 1.0
map_Kd mirror.jpeg

where mirror.jpeg is the same image as the Sweet Home 3D mirror. (I don't think the image makes any difference for the photo rendering.)
The Ns value can go up to 1000 so a little more shininess might enhance the view.

The OBJ file g group should start like I said before:
g sweethome3d_window_mirror_vase_1
usemtl Vase
v ...
...

You might try it without a texture image and just use a color, then experiment with the Kd and Ks values.

Edit 2:
I found a note I had that this might work better:
Set ambient and diffuse to black (Ka 0 0 0 , Kd 0 0 0) and specular to white (Ks 1 1 1).
Then increase the shininess by experimenting, maybe around 100.
This is of course without a texture image.

applause Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Dear Keet, Everything is just perfect! Everything is working out!! I am now figuring out (trying))) how to use the mirror effect on the glass so that the background shines through a little while it turns out a dull polished metal. R.S. I already injured my finger while I was turning the mouse wheel in search of this distant group))) number 6. But your advice was worth it))

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Toujours d'excellents conseils de Keet.

Je me suis amusé aussi à créer une sphère miroir et ça marche super.

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Interesting job! Does your mirror sphere let light through itself? Or is it the backlight panel on the grass? I am currently trying to make a translucent mirror surface and it is not working yet..

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Non, la sphère miroir ne laisse pas passer la lumière.
La lumière visible sur l'herbe est simplement un panneau lumineux non visualisable pour améliorer l'éclairage de la scène.

@GaudiGalopin3324
@captaincook
The two of you created mirrored spheres independent of each other. Now I'm interested in the MTL files you both used for the spheres. I think other users could use that too.
Those spheres look great!

rose Re: How to make a mirror ball?

I can only give my file to study, there are an insane number of trial versions, more than 50 pieces with different parameters. I have highlighted two more or less decent ones with the word "Perfect" so as not to look for the right ones. It's a glass vase and a mirrored one. My opinion is that MTL files are almost all on the same person, but the "d" parameter has a high value, I preferred to set 0.1-0.2, and the optical density coefficient is important, the feeling of a "glass lens" strongly depends on it. Otherwise, it all depends on the brilliance in the final settings of the groups in the program itself, not in MTL. And I also noticed a strange effect of a strong glow when assigning any texture (not color) to the glass. Just a dazzling snow-white lamp. The color of the texture does not matter at all - in the end, a dazzling white ball and that's it. This is because I placed a very powerful light source inside the vase - a 50% flashlight. It also highlights the texture of the vase. In the version with a mirrored vase, the flashlight does not break out in any way, but highlights the base of the leaves through the throat of the vase.

the file is here https://www.mediafire.com/file/p9e0hpk4wyx9sq...%25B8%25D1%258F.sh3d/file

Re: How to make a mirror ball?

Did you notice the mirror-in-mirror effect that you achieved?
That's a problem that many 3D creators have huge problems with and you displayed a great example here. You can find many discussions about it on the internet.
