sad 2D view of carpets

Hello,

Is there a way to have carpets in the 2D view always appear "under" other elements?

I imported a carpet to a room filled with furniture and it covers other elements, making it difficult to work with the room. The 3D view is OK, it is just a matter of ease of manipulation of the elements in the 2D view.

Thanks!
Wojtek

Re: 2D view of carpets

Wojtek:

The short answer to your question is: "NO".

Now the long answer:
In the 2D view the objects are stacked on top of each other in the order they are inserted. So if you want the rug/carpet on the bottom, insert it first. Of course, if you decide to insert a different carpet, it will end up on top of the stack.

A better solution would be to change the elevation of all objects that should appear on top of the rug. The "standard" rug included in the furniture library has a thickness of 2 cms. However, it is not necessary to elevate, say, your coffee table 2 cms to be on top of the rug. If you elevate it 0.1 cms or 0.5 cms it will always be on top of the rug in the 2D view. Remember that in the 3D view you will not see the part of the object that is hidden in the rug. So, if you want to see the whole object, you should elevate it the same distance as the thickness of the rug.

Re: 2D view of carpets

Hans is right but nevertheless, there's an easier tip than changing the elevation of all the items put on the carpet:
1. Lock the plan to simplify selection process.
2. Draw a selection rectangle that encloses the carpet and everything on it.
3. Press the Shift key and click on the carpet keeping the Shift key pressed to unselect it.
4. Cut and Paste the selected items. Now that the pasted items were inserted after the carpet, they appear on top of it in the 2D view.

This tip may be applied on whatever items at same elevation you want to restack. I use it most of the time to display chairs under a table, because generally you add a table then the chairs.

Re: 2D view of carpets

Thanks a lot for both responses -- everything is clear now.

Cheers,
