Include light in Export to OBJ format

Emmanuel,

When you export a model with light, and then import it again, the light is lost.
It would be nice if light was included in the export data.

It can't be. As far as I know OBJ format doesn't support lights.

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

Emmanuel,
what if you add some kindof "comment" or unknown tag line that sh3d could use to determine this is part of a light source?

or a mat that "has to be" light?

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

OBJ format is used to exchange 3D models right? So why creating some OBJ subformat that only Sweet Home 3D would understand???

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

If you "hide" the special instructions in the remarks starting with #, you could sneak in the necessary information without creating a subformat.

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

But what for? OBJ format is used to exchange information between Sweet Home 3D and other 3D applications. Only Sweet Home 3D will understand this new format, and there's no need to exchange information between Sweet Home 3D and itself!!!

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

Emmanuel,

Maybe I'm just not technical enough, or maybe we don't understand each other.
To me, the advantage would be that you could design a lamp* and export it with light and all.
(* - for lamp read anything that includes a light source)

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

Where will you import this light information then? In Sweet Home 3D? Why not use Copy as New furniture plug-in then? It's already working.

Re: Include light in Export to OBJ format

Because, when Export-Import works, you can re-use your "lamp" much easier in other designs.
