Its .png file. choose your fav color image open in photoshop, and adjust opacity(max-70%). and save in .png format. then as per texture import steps in sweethome 3d.....

There is a lot you can do with transparent objects, even before starting to play with .png transparency (and if you do not have Photoshop, GIMP is free). You may also want to look at SF ticket 3D Models 303.
In the thread you find a couple of simple transparent objects (glass walls, turn during import if you need a horizontal one). The good thing about the using simple objects, is that you can change the hue (colour) on imported, transparent models: bluish for safety glass, smoke for furniture items - all while using the same box...

PS, you can also modify the values in the .mtl file: transparency level, reflection etc. to get the very effect you want.
