Fastest possible photo-realistic rendering

First things first: Hats off to the developer and all co-developers/ contributors for making SH3D such an amazing piece of software!

I have been trying to fasten the speed at which photo-realistic images are created - here are the details:
SH3D Room size: 110 MB
# of lights in room: 2
CPU: Intel i7 4510U (2 Ghz)
RAM: 4 GB
Have extended SH3D memory utilization to 1GB
Made furniture objects not in the camera viewport invisible

Result: 42 seconds

My Question to this forum is: How much faster can I render photo-realistic images via SH3D, if I were to use better CPU on a server? What server specifications would you recommend?

Thanks in advance folks!

Re: Fastest possible photo-realistic rendering

Welcome to Sweet Home 3D forum.

The more cores your CPU will have, the faster the rendering will be computed.
It should be possible also to dispatch the computing of the image on more than a computer (or server), but this would require some changes in the program.

Re: Fastest possible photo-realistic rendering

Thanks Emmanuel. Will try with more cores, and keep the forum posted of the progress.

Re: Fastest possible photo-realistic rendering

If you want to speed up image creation you can do any of the following:
- faster CPU (more cores, higher clock)
- fewer objects in the scene
- fewer light sources in the scene
- less detailed models (fewer polygons)
- fewer and smaller image textures, no transparency
- smaller image size (less pixels to be computed)
- desktop instead of notebook
- additional cooling

Many notebooks have cooling issues by design (little space, small fan). They tend to overheat with high CPU usage over an extended period of time. This results in either reduced CPU clock speed or even complete failure.
Put your notebook in the freezer when doing high-res renders wink

What makes you think that computing the image on a server would speed things up? Apart from not being able to run SH3D headless you also potentially share the server's resources with other users.
Unless you find a way to use a render farm (e.g. BURP) I would stick to your personal computer.

Best, slimpy
