I'm running SweetHome3D under Ubuntu 14.04, and it works well. But there is no association between sh3d files and SweetHome3D. If I want to open SweetHome3D first, and then open the file with SweetHome3D ; but if I want to open the file first, there is no association with SweetHome3D. And if I try to click-right on the file to obtain the contextual menu to "Open with", there is no SweetHome3D in the applications list. So, how can I associate sh3d files with SweetHome3D application ?... Should I create a mine type to do so, and how ?

As suggested here, create a sweethome3d.desktop file with the following content, or download and modify this file:
[Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Name=Sweet Home 3D GenericName=Sweet Home 3D Comment=Design home interiors Exec=/installationFolder/SweetHome3D-5.2/SweetHome3D %U Icon=/installationFolder/SweetHome3D-5.2/SweetHome3DIcon.png Terminal=false Categories=Graphics MimeType=application/SweetHome3D
In this text file, replace the installationFolder folder by the one where SweetHome3D program is stored. If you want an icon (not mandatory), download this one (it will be also available in the installation folder of the next version 5.3).
Once the sweethome3d.desktop file is ready, move it in the folder ~/.local/share/applications (if you want to make it available only to you) or in /usr/share/applications (for all systems users). Finally, choose the Open with > Other application... item in the contextual menu of the .sh3d file you want to open, and in the displayed dialog box, click on the Show other applications to select Sweet Home 3D.
