How to export SweetHome files to anything else like Sketchup ?

Hello.

Outdated Gentoo, I installed SweetHome via NIX.

I chose SH because it can run natively on Linux, and also on other platforms.

Before I start the real work, I am checking if, on long term, I will be able to eventually export my work to other formats. Sketchup can export to autocad. SH does not seem to be able to export to any other format (except OBJ, which fails to import in Sketchup), and Sketchup can't import SH files.

Many people tell about export, but, usually, it's about exporting only bits of projects, like furniture; I don't care about chairs and beds; I want to export a whole house.

Is it completely impossible, or do I miss something ? Missing plugin in NIX ? export possible via SH in Windows ? Online version ?

Sweet Home 3D is able to export the 3D view to OBJ format only, and a sh3d file can be read on any operating system where it can run, i.e. Windows, Mac OS X and Linux as of today.

Re: How to export SweetHome files to anything else like Sketchup ?

I did some experimenting and found that the OBJ files exported from SH3D, import into Blender (2.78b is the version I used) seemlessly. However, the scale is off.

To remedy this, select the entire model (put it on its own layer and hit the A key) then scale it down to 0.1 so it'll match Blender's environment scale (probably not the right term, but hopefully you'll know what I mean).

From there, Blender exports to various other formats and hopefully that includes the one you want.

I was going to go back and edit out one of those 'hopefully's, but I see no edit button. (sigh)

I don't want any particular format; I just want to be able to export if I even need to.

Sketchup could not import the OBJ generated by SW.

Failed to launch blender (app hangs on linux; my Windows is lacking 3D acceleration).
