objects with texture from a picture

Hi experts, I try to fill the surface of a door with a wooden texture.
I have found the problem here too:
http://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,1690#6978

I tryed this described workaround... is working. But is this the only way?

Why does the texture in the mirror-object created by Emmanuel Puybaret (I think, I have downloaded it from this site) fits the surface as it should be. What is the different? Does anyone have an explanation?

Thank you in advance.

Re: objects with texture from a picture

My guess is that you want to know how and/or why a texture repeats itself on a model??

When you import a texture you are asked to indicate the size of the texture in centimeters (cms) or feet-inches.

Imagine the following situation:
- you import a texture 250 pixels wide and 500 pixels high.
- you want to apply this texture exactly ONE time on a model (door?) sized 100 cms wide and 200 cms high.

When during importation you are asked to indicate the size of the texture, you should give 100 centimeters as the width of the texture (or 200 cms as its height). Now the texture will fit perfectly on your model.

Any other size will make the texture repeat (if smaller) or show only partially (when bigger).

Re: objects with texture from a picture

Hansmex, thanks for your answer.

I have exported a model from CAD to an obj-file and created my own mtl-file. Both to zip-file and import to SH3D. I wonder: the texture will be repeated. I've found for ex. the described workaround.

But, sorry, I found the answer: I have to include any vt-values in the obj-file (that is the difference I was searching for!)

To create such a 'texture-table' for a extensive form automatically perhaps I write a little app.
