How to keep imported models such as windows and doors from flattening?

I apologize if this has been asked before, I did a quick look back and then a search and I didn't find anything.

Whenever I try to import some doors and windows and mark them as such, I can't actually use them when added to a wall because they immediately flatten. I've tried editing the depth, but then it doesn't look right. Is there a way to fix or avoid this?

Thank you!

Select your model and place it using the cursor keys, not the mouse.

You could also place your imported doors after deactivating magnetism (see also this video).

Oh, thank you both! That works and I'm so happy. I hadn't realized I could do that.
