[HELP] Stainless Steel

I'm trying to create a cylinder (small, 5cm x 5cm x 5cm) that is made of stainless steel.
It should emulate glass holder for an intern staircase.
I tryed to download a blender object I found and export the material, but had no success (got a kind of white opaque item). I can search for the MTL file, but had no sense, it is obviously wrong (exported from blender).

Even making "Glossy" on the component it doesn't look Stainless Steel.

Have some of you a good MTL or some advice on how can I accomplish this?

Thank you very much!

Re: [HELP] Stainless Steel

You can try this:

ChromeCylinder.zip

This cylinder has a mirror surface, and will produce a mirror effect.
Open the .obj-file in a text editor and search for usemtl There you can see what's creating the mirror effect.

Another way is to add a completely black colour and use shininess to create the effect. Works sometimes, depending on your render settings.

the mirror effect is not created in the mtl , it's created in the obj -file.
You can open the obj -file in any text editor, same as with the mtl -file.

Then you will see what creates the mirror effect.

do you think ilum 3 and 8 in mtl are not applicable in SH3D?

Illum 3 or 8 for reflection and ray trace.

Re: [HELP] Stainless Steel

As far as I have been able to understand, only illum 0, illum 1 and illum 2 are active with SH3D.
I have experimented with this program for years, so if you have a way to make illum 3 and 8 work, please share your secret.
