Suggestions from a newbie
I've been using SweetHome 3D for maybe 10 hours and here are some of my suggestions:
I am using this to layout my office so I am primarily using the 2D layout to see how desks and stuff fit together. The 3D view is only for minor reference for me so my comments are directed at the 2D design view.
1. On the 2D layout, when you rotate a piece of furniture, rotate the furniture name with it. The name moves with the furniture so it should rotate with it.
2.On the 2d layout offer options to left justify, right, justify, justify top, justify bottom and center the furniture name within the furniture outline.
3. Ctrl-E works to edit furniture when it is selected, it should also work for a wall that is selected. Why is it Ctrl-E for one and Ctrl Shift E for the other.
4. When adjusting wall lengths, make it easier to choose what happens to adjacent walls and/or which adjacent walls might be affected.
5. Allow the changing of each color of multi-colored imported furniture.
6. Add a measurement tool that just tells you the distance between to points but doesn't put down dimensions.
7. Add snap to grid with an enable/disable for drawing walls. Though not all walls are at right angles, most are.
8. Add snap to boarder when placing furniture on the 2D layout. This allows for easily putting objects adjacent to each other.
9. All of your furniture exists in squares that only have a width and depth. This doesn't work for corner desks which have a length to the far wall and a length to the near wall for both sides of the desk.
10. Add a periodic automatic backup to allow for system crashes.
11. For positioning windows allow for editing the distance of the windows from either wall. Similar to modify wall but with the additional parameters of distance to the ends of the wall on both sides. This allows for easier positioning of the window long the wall.
12. Add a center window option. This will center a window on a wall.
13. Allow for a furniture name to be 2 lines or more. Sometimes the name will not fit on the outline in a single like or diagonal.
14. Rotating a name around a piece of furniture does not rotate around the center of where it is position but around the center of the move symbol.
15. When on the 2D layout have some way of noting which side of the outline is considered front.
16. Add the option of creating a boarder on a piece of furniture or windows. This will allow white pieces of furniture to be seen on the white 2d grid.
17. Add a "nudge" option when trying to fit a piece of furniture next to or in between two pieces. This would allow other pieces of furniture moving when trying to fit something in, rather than having to move them manually.
18. When in virtual visitor mode, make it easier to change the field of view (zoom in and out). CTRL-wheel or CTRL-+ and CTRL-- or something like that.

1. On the 2D layout, when you rotate a piece of furniture, rotate the furniture name with it. The name moves with the furniture so it should rotate with it. - Not possible. Workaround: use text.
2.On the 2d layout offer options to left justify, right, justify, justify top, justify bottom and center the furniture name within the furniture outline. - Select the items to justify/align. Click FURNITURE and select one of 11 options of justification/alignment.
5. Allow the changing of each color of multi-colored imported furniture. - Select model, then MODIFY. The option MATERIALS allow you to change colour or texture of individual parts. NOTE: only works if the model has parts with distinct colours/textures.
6. Add a measurement tool that just tells you the distance between to points but doesn't put down dimensions. - Use DIMENSIONS, then delete them?
7. Add snap to grid with an enable/disable for drawing walls. Though not all walls are at right angles, most are. - When you draw walls using the mouse, walls will snap to 15 degree angles. In PREFERENCES enable/disable MAGNETISM, or use ALT+SHIFT to temorarily disable magnetism.
8. Add snap to bo(a)rder when placing furniture on the 2D layout. This allows for easily putting objects adjacent to each other. - When you select a model, one of the bordering lines is thicker: this is the "front" of the model. The line opposite the thick line is the back that will stick to the wall. - When using ALIGN (see above) models will align side-to-side. A vertical series of models will (generally) not align correctly. Put them in a horizontal line, then ALIGN, GROUP and rotate.
9. All of your furniture exists in squares that only have a width and depth. This doesn't work for corner desks which have a length to the far wall and a length to the near wall for both sides of the desk. - Not clear what you mean. Model dimensions can be changed.
10. Add a periodic automatic backup to allow for system crashes. - Check out the PREFERENCES pane. You can set the interval.
11. For positioning windows allow for editing the distance of the windows from either wall. Similar to modify wall but with the additional parameters of distance to the ends of the wall on both sides. This allows for easier positioning of the window long the wall. - When inserting windows/doors guides appear that show distances to edges. Not perfect, but helpful.
13. Allow for a furniture name to be 2 lines or more. Sometimes the name will not fit on the outline in a single like or diagonal. - Using TEXT will give you more options.
15. When on the 2D layout have some way of noting which side of the outline is considered front. - See #8.
It helps to familiarize yourself with software a bit longer than 10 hours before asking so many questions...

+1 for the snap to grid.
Can another option for units be added that would do the same thing? Like in addition to foot/inch/fraction have just foot/inch? Right inch/decimal and foot/inch/fraction effectively "snap" to a 1/8" grid and the metric units "snap" to a 1mm grid. I assume there is a common routine which translates mouse position to coordinates which round to the nearest 1/8" or 1mm depending on whether Imperial or metric units are chosen. If more choices are available (round to the nearest inch, half inch, etc) that would provide coarser snapping ability.
