Problems Importing

Hi Folks.. bit of a newbie here. I've been meticulously (as I can, anyway) building a 3D model of my house. I've been using generic furniture so far, but came across BIM&Co, which provides free manufacturer-supplied models - it's ace and has so much of what I need.

But.. it doesn't supply the models in anything SH3D supports natively (.ifc, .skp, .max, .dwg, .rfa).

I downloaded a trial of SketchUp so I can export to .obj, .dae etc., and I also had a friend who uses Revit at work export them as well to .obj and .dae - and in all instances, when I import to SH3D the models are 'off axis' for want of a better description, and the colours also disappear (if I try to colour them in SH3D it just ends up a bland black box).

Can anyone point me to what I'm doing wrong?

(I have screenshots but it's not obvious how to attach them to this post)

Thanks for any help

Cheers, James

Re: Problems Importing

The colors and textures of an OBJ file are defined in a MTL file and images which should be in the same folder or the same ZIP file when you import the OBJ file.
What do you mean by "off axis"? If they are not correctly oriented, the second step of the furniture import wizard should help you to fix that.

Re: Problems Importing

Hi Emmanuel - if I could figure out how to attach images to this post, I'd show you! Good tip on the .mtl though, thanks I'll check it out - it's possible they weren't sent to me.

Hope to get it working - I really don't want to re-train myself with SketchUp, as Sweet Home 3D is so easy to work with! (could do with negative elevations though, but there are a few posts on that and how to get around it already ;) )

Cheers, James
