Stairs U shaped two landings

I'm trying to build a U shaped stairs with two landings. The top landing isn't large enough to fill the space. can this be adjusted?

overall it appears once generated there is very little adjustment using modifiy furniture command.

here is the stair plan.

the area circled in blue is the gap i'm trying to fix.

It can always be fixed but not with the staircases as you have generated. Unless of course you can make the top staircase smaller to fit the landing off the bottom staircase but that is probably not what you want.

The best solution is to generate just the three staircases without landings and then use boxes to create the landings.

1. Accordingly with your blue print you can do like this:

2. The staircase can cutout the room (upper floor, ceiling) not the walls.
For what you need you have to use a door frame or a service hatch.

Re: Stairs U shaped two landings

@Dorin
Good example Dorin, I didn't know the two landings was possible, I haven't done much with the staircase generator because I custom create all of my staircases. Just setting the turn stairs count to 1 made it a landing.

@cookj
As Dorin said, a staircase can only cut through a floor, that's what the cutout shape is for. For your wall: split the wall and move the split to where the wall opening must start. Now lower the height of the part of wall where the staircase is. This is very basic for Sweethome3D so try it, because you will probably use it more often.
The floor cutout shape is determined by the bounding box of the staircase, that means the area that is occupied by the staircase. You can change that but it requires that you add the staircase to a furniture library. In the furniture library you can set a custom cutout.

Re: Stairs U shaped two landings

Thanks guys....

made a lot of progress. in 3D the stairs look good except at the top landing it cuts the opening in the wrong place. Also in the plan view it shows the stairs over the powder room walls. I'm thinking maybe i need to build the stairs like someone mentioned using straight stairs and blocks

Re: Stairs U shaped two landings

The walls you can split and adjust in height.
For the cutout in the floor you will have to add your staircase to a Furniture Library. In the Furniture Library you can customize the cutout in the floor. The cutout is defined as an SVG path and you can download a pdf here that explains how that works. It looks difficult but once you understand how to draw a path it's simple.
To create your own Furniture Library you need to download and install the Furniture Library Editor .

Re: Stairs U shaped two landings

1. At that moment you can't have it all: a 2D Plan like in AutoCAD and a good 3D View. At least not yet. The main purpose is "interior designer" not a professional CAD program.
2. Wile this cutout is needed only here and in this position I opt to make it locally:
2.1 When generate the staircase uncheck "Generate cutout"
2.2 At upper level, draw the rooms then modify needed room to make a desire hole (on a room corner) over a part of staircase. In this way you will have also the correct surface of that room.
3. You could try to combine parts of staircase.
Remember: a staircase it is a piece of furniture. If the top of it (including balusters) it is a little higher than the upper level the entire object will be visible also from the upper level.
If you make the correct combination you will see only what you want even in 2D Plan.
