Circles on the water.
Hi. Dear tdanielson, in the topic about the dog mat, set an interesting task. In the process of answering, I had thoughts on how to simulate circles on the water in the pool. the fact is that from a certain angle to the water, it is very difficult to see objects underwater. The surface of the water in a calm form turns into a strong mirror. Therefore, it is difficult to see fish on a fishing trip, everything is sparkling and the sky is reflected. There are no fish in sight. I decided to follow this principle further. In the group of stucco decors, I found a round ceiling rosette with smooth spiral surfaces, without patterns and decors. Exported to OBJ, assigned the transparency coefficient d 0.3 in the MTL file, the optical refraction coefficient Ni 3. I took a flat mirror for the surface of the water, at the beginning I got an unnatural picture. Dogs on the mirror. Of course it doesn't look like water in any way. Although in the early morning you can see a similar picture on the lake (just not with dogs)))
I've added a normal fuss to this idyll. He added transparent jets of fountains, brought rabbit friends and, of course, a cat. And then, of course, the water should become different. We need waves. Circles on the water appear from outriggers. These are the centers of oscillation. The nozzle of the fountain, animals, objects trapped in the water. I placed transparent thin sockets on these outriggers, directly on the mirror, and added more sockets irregularly along the banks of puddles. Added it . It turned out to be complete chaos, of course, but it already looks like choppy water.
For more open water, the method of a large number of circles was no longer good. It was just terrible and the program couldn't cope with reflections and refractions. The computer is frozen. And then you need to temper your ardor and remember about the morning lake. Circles are only in the right places. I made outriggers for a dog, a Minion, a ball in the water, a ladder support. The rest is calm water-a mirror. Then you get a calmer picture and the computer works without freezes.

Re: Circles on the water.
I made a top view. At this angle, the water mirror changes to a transparent medium with optical fractures of the bottom. I did a lot of trial experiments and found a more or less good option. I took a model of a gypsum wall panel in the form of waves.
I also gave it in the MTL d 0.3. Ni 2 file. I assigned a minimum thickness of 0.1 cm. If the relief is directed upwards, then there is a strong reflection of the sky, the bottom of the pool is almost invisible. I turned the model upside down. And everything has changed!! Now there is only optical refraction and there are no reflections of the sky at all. It looks very much like clear water with waves. Although, of course, in reality the water will be more difficult, with glare. This mode loads down relief for a very long time, much longer than the relief up with mirror reflections of the sky. Interesting.. But as a result, there is an illusion of water movement, the rosette circles do not lose their shapes, because they do not intersect with the shape of horizontal water. The Ni coefficient greatly changes the tile pattern under water, I gave a 3D view for comparison. All circles are 1mm above the top of the horizontal water relief, so the shapes of the circles are clean.
If the relief is turned up, it will reflect the sky with clouds mostly, the bottom is almost invisible., mainly reflections of the walls of the pool above the water. So for a view with clear water, you need to turn the model upside down.

A completely radical decision. I turned the circle models upside down. The sky is not reflected anywhere at all. Only optical refractions. It looks beautiful.

Re: Circles on the water.
Best result so far! But remove the wave, it's unnatural to have straight waves in a small pool that intersect with circled ripples. I also think you need to find something else for the circles to get a more natural effect. Ripples in water are never perfectly round. Only a drop in perfectly still standing water will cause close to perfect circles. Check this site with transparent ripple circle PNG's: https://pluspng.com/water-ripples-png-3643.html
I think a combination of different circles would work better because different objects cause different ripples. For example the ladder should only show very small and partial circles, it doesn't move to cause big ripples, it only disturbs touching ripples. Ripples also continue to the sides of the pool with increasingly subtle waves and only fade out to nothing if the pool is big enough. And of course ripples disturb each other but that is almost impossible to reproduce. Interesting read about mathematically generating water waves: https://slembcke.github.io/WaterWaves
Nature: always different, always beautiful. If only Sweet Home 3D would support animated GIFs/PNGs...

Re: Circles on the water.
As always, very interesting and useful links. I studied everything and looked at it. But. I have heavy thoughts all the time. We have: three wooden wheels from a construction cart (and we need 4), a door from a barn without a handle, some sticks. Tools include a chisel and a wooden hammer. And how to make a new Lamborghini model out of all this??!! Oh yes, there is also a large hourglass, the sand is already falling. Not an easy task, very))). The main thing is that it is very difficult to stop in these experiments, there are many different factors that strongly affect the appearance of our Lamborghini. I dug through all the resources with free models, found one defective model of a jacuzzi with wavy water, managed to get only water out of this spoiled model.jacuzzi with water I assigned a height of 0.1 cm to this water in the new import. For circles (plaster sockets), I assigned a height of 1.1 cm. I placed the water just above all the layers with circles (2 cm higher) so that this water destroys the shape of the circles with optical fractures. In general, it turned out, now there is no unnatural correctness, it looks like a real natural picture, where everything changes every second, everything moves. It is necessary to sharpen the chisel on the back of the plate, it is blunted. (do you know such a way of sharpening metal, about a plate?). I can tell you a lot more, without these methods it is difficult to participate in the world auto show. We must continue.

Incredible results! Now it really looks natural. If think I can fix most of the flaws of the jacuzzi if you want.

Yes, I wonder how it can be done (to put everything back in its place)! Such defective models are often found when all the parts are located in different places. I do not know what can be done with this, and often the model itself is needed in its normal form, it is initially well made. the link to this model is in my previous post, a jacuzzi with water.

Re: Circles on the water.
You can't fix it with Sweet Home 3D but you can with Blender. I opened the model with Blender and it's a real mess. Almost every part must be moved to a correct position and the names of the parts don't make any sense. I'll give it a go and at the same time give each part its own material name. You were lucky that you could extract the water part because that is a separate group. All other parts are groups grouped into a single other group. Fortunately that can be exported into individual groups. From the look of it the only really interesting parts are the tub itself, the cushion, and the water. The faucets, controls, etc are nothing special. I'll create a base with the tub and the water, maybe one or more of the controls.
