rose furniture in the interior in a transparent form

After the rays, I did some experiments with transparent furniture. So far, my conclusion is as a result: You need to use a PNG texture with a gradient from completely transparent to translucent. I made this white texture in an online image editor and saved it with 5% transparency.
The opaque JPG texture on transparent models gave a bad result. I made a group of a table, chairs, a chandelier and saved it in OBJ, then the whole group back as a general model. I took the scale of my texture with a gradient very large, for this furniture group the scale is 2500%. The most important thing is to find the Y-axis offset. To get places with a transparency gradient on objects. I got an 80% offset. The smaller scale of the texture is poorly distributed throughout the group. A much more difficult task was for translucent people. A human model is usually made of pieces and layers that are invisible in the usual way. For example, eyes and teeth are made on square curved plates and inserted inside the head. When they are transparent, they are visible, there is nothing beautiful about it. Shoes are often made of a huge number of parts, straps, insoles, soles, heels and laces. To use a human model in a transparent form, you need to remove all unnecessary details in the model. Even sometimes it is useful to remove the legs and other parts of the body hidden under clothes, they are translucent. In the second picture, the shoes turned out to be almost black, because I did not remove all these unnecessary details. Even the standard human models in SH3D consist of several parts and you need to remove the excess. The method of translucent models in the interior is of course complicated and requires a lot of trial renderings on poor quality. But this is another opportunity for a new presentation of your work. A person in a transparent form does not resemble a specific character, it is a phantom and works to understand the scale of the entire room. (sorry if the translator failed).
The scale for the model of a man in a dress is 4000%, the Y-axis offset is 87%. Everything needs to be tried on bad tenders.

Many of the character 3D models are build using a texture for the body and head and separate textures for clothes over that body texture. This makes it easy to have different clothes using the same base-body. You can make the clothes invisible and change the body and head texture to a color. Then export and set the transparency. It's a little more difficult than this but it should give a good start.
You will be looking for models without too much detail that is difficult to remove. For example this one: https://free3d.io/?a=download&id=5ab719b4
Only a single texture but it is tif so you must convert that to png to apply it in sweet Home 3D. But for your purpose it doesn't matter (you don't need the texture): a full body to which you can set transparency.
(The 3D model is different from the one in the image)

The technology of transparent people has become simpler. The scale of the PNG texture (with a transparency gradient) is 8000%, you need to find a shift along the Y axis. For different models, it is 40-80%. It's not difficult. There is no need to do anything specifically in MTL and remove details, all models from the SH3D library are very well suited, there are many different ones here.

Re: furniture in the interior in a transparent form

This looks really great, very creative thinking!
Basically what you are doing is selecting a small part of the gradient texture. By scaling 8000% and shifting with the Y value you only use a thin vertical part (1/80th) of the image.
I can see where this has advantages over creating an image with just a single transparency overall. You only need one texture image and by shifting the Y value you can select the part with the best transparency for each character. It remains a gradient, meaning it is not the same transparency all over which looks better. It is very subtle but I think you could see the difference.
Place the same character repeated in a path with different transparencies. It will look like it walks in and out of view.

Could you share the transprarency image you created? It seems to work very good in what you show.

You could create a gif with a ghost that shifts in and out of view with a series of images with increasing/decreasing transparencies!

Re: furniture in the interior in a transparent form

Hi Keet. I used the texture that I first came across from the list with my downloads. In fact, you can make such a simple texture in 2-3 minutes for the desired task, for example, color. It doesn't matter in principle, it just seemed to me that the white color is neutral and better suited. This is the texture . I think that each model can distribute texture differently on its surface, and here a very large scale is needed to smooth out the spots. I tried to do a small scale of 1-5% and got small frequent stripes. Probably can also be used if desired.

Re: furniture in the interior in a transparent form

Thank you, and yes, it would be simple to create the image.
Of course I mixed up X and Y in my response. Y shifts vertically and not horizontally (which would use a small vertical band). Sorry about that.
With the large scaling and shifting Y you select a very subtle gradient top to bottom. With a great result!
Of course the same could be tried in the horizontal plane. With the right scaling and placed in the correct way it could suggest movement of the model. A model walking from left to right and the gradient with more transparency on the left and less to the right should do that.

I wonder if this system makes it viable to display a large crowd in a photo rendering. Using normal models with regular textures would take a very long time to render but maybe as ghosts it becomes reasonable.

Re: furniture in the interior in a transparent form

people in stripes. I made the texture scale for all models 10%. Each strip is now a complete texture cycle from transparent to opaque. Therefore, the models become mostly opaque, because the stripes overlap each other in space, transparency is lost. The direction of the stripes can be controlled by rotating the texture in the model settings. I can't say that this is a masterpiece)). But you can use it too. biggrin

I think the PNG texture method does not simplify rendering, but only complicates and increases time. But you need to experiment, of course. This picture was loaded for exactly 2 hours 2000x2000 and the third level of standard settings.
