Walls & Room Sizes

I am stuggling to use the software to create accurate rooms and walls and am sure its me as some of the stuff produced by this program is amazing.

Anyway I am trying to draw up a perfect scale model of my house where the only real known dimensions are internal but:

If I create A Room to accurate dimensions then put walls round it the walls either snap to centre or don't snap at all making it hard to line up the walls. Is this normal or is there a trick to this?

If I create the walls first I have to draw them out then set the thickness then adjust them all again to get the accurate internal dimensions as again its working on centres.

If I did manage to get it all perfect then wanted to edit a length or width of a room it would unleash a mass of super zoomed in minor adjustment to get it right again.

Surely I am missing something here like snap to outer edge or group or something

Thanks for any help in advance.

J

Re: Walls & Room Sizes

This topic has been raised a hundred times already, if not more. There is no real solution for what you want. Sorry, but you have to live with it.

Walls are drawn along their middle line, connected at their middle line.

You can draw the room first, then double-click the Walls button to surround the room with walls. This works well only if you have just one room.

More rooms? Then, for each wall, you have to add half the wall thickness to its length to get the correct inner spavce (= room).

As hansmex already said, this is an ancient question.
So, I offer you an ancient (partially) answer:
How to draw precisely -mini tip
Probably I'll need to update it.

Re: Walls & Room Sizes

What I do is to draw the first room, select walls and double-click it so the walls are created. Then I draw the second room and move it into the right place, double-click with walls selected as before.

Re: Walls & Room Sizes

Thanks for all the replies guys. I know its an old question and I have seen the old threads and watched videos on it but I just thought that being something that is so intrinsically fundamental to a design program may have seen some updates since but it appears not. I am not complaining at all its fantastic software for FREE so its perfect in many ways. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something before I spend hours drawing only to find out there was a better way. Thanks again
