Fireplace lightning

Is it possible to get some sort flickering light from a fireplace?

I got a 3d plan in home assistant from sweethome 3d
For lights i create 2 pictures, one for off and one for one.
So i can see when the light is on.

However i want to do the same for the fireplace but when its on, it should flicker slightly, to create a real effect.
Anyone know how i can achieve this?

Thx

Search images for "animated gif fire", you will find dozens too choose from.
You apply the gif just like any other texture and export it the same as you did with you current fireplace. Import in Home Assistent is also the same as you did before. Even though Sweet Home 3D doesn't display the animation it does export the gif as-is, meaning that your export still has an animated gif. Home Assist should show it.

Make sure the gif is copied along with the obj and mtl files. Always keep the obj, mtl, and texture images together. If Home Assist can handle a zip file you can create a zip with the obj, mtl, and gif.

Re: Fireplace lightning

I didn't succeed(. Replacing a JPG texture with a GIF does not produce live fire. There is a new image on the model, but without movement. Can you show the result using a simple example with a GIF texture? What needs to be done? I inserted a GIF image into the ZIP file and nothing happened (although it was exported to the SH library as a live texture with movement, I see it there as a live fire). In the second case, I replaced the JPG with this GIF image. There is still no movement... What am I doing wrong? confused

It doesn't work in Sweet Home 3D. Skank use Sweet Home 3D to create plans for use in Home Assist, another program where animated gifs DO show animated.
Sweet Home 3D does accept an animated gif but it only displays the first frame of the animation. It does however keep the image itself unchanged so the export still has the animated gif.

Re: Fireplace lightning

You know the ExportToHTML5? Like I use for 3D views on the Dodecagon.nl site?
I tried to cheat the system by replacing textures in the exported files with animated gifs but that didn't work either. Support for animated gifs/pngs is something many users would like to have. Maybe not in the 3D view in Sweet Home 3D but then at least in the HTML export.

Re: Fireplace lightning

Im not sure i get it yet.
So i use an animated gif... but how will that work in HA?

In HA i use an picture elements card.
The fireplace is an element
I have an on and off state of that element, where the off is the normal picture of sweet home 3d without lights
And the on picture is a photo of sweet home, but with that light/fireplac turned on.

So when i take that, while using the gif, it wont flicker right?
But i cant point to that gif either, cause then i dont have my sweet home 3d plan?

I hope this is clear.

Re: Fireplace lightning

I don't know Home Assist but from your reply I understand that you assign an image to a specific status (i.e. the on/off images). If that is the case AND HA can display animated gifs you can simply assign an animated fire gif in HA without any changes to the Sweet Home 3D object.
