First and second problems are bound. If a red cross appears for a piece of furniture, it means the SH3D file is wrong, and you Sweet Home 3D can't save again a wrong file. See this thread for possible fixes.
For the third and fourth problems, try the new version 2.4 because it manages better memory. Try also to increase memory used by Sweet Home 3D with this solution. Then if it still fails, avoid using objects with big texture images.
