I get the message in the subject line as soon as I launch SH3D, which makes SH3D exit. Some background:
- I run Windows Vista (no firewall, but UAC is on). - SW3D had been working trouble-free for a week: I created a model of my house, and it's a great program. I'm ready to support it. - I tried uninstalling both SH3D and Java, clean up registry, reboot... done that twice already.
Note: the problem started right after I tried SW3D online with SRWare Iron, which is Chrome-based. The Java logo appeared, the browser said some add-ons were being installed, then the browser froze. Tried again with another browser (IE7), no luck.
I use my wife's MacBook to continue working but it's a 13' screen - I'd rather use my 23' monitor, as you all understand... but it's attached to my Windows machine .
No clue in the FAQ section, and I can't seem to google to an answer, which is my usual way of solving things. Yep, I'm a coder... kinda funny I have to post for help, I'm usually on the answering side .

Re: Java platform SE binary not responding
Never saw this error and Google doesn't bring some real info. Did you try also the installer version?

Re: Java platform SE binary not responding
Well Java 6 Update 3 is quite old now. It could be a good idea to install a more recent version like Java 6 update 24.

installed java 6 update 24 (have the impression I've done that before).
Control panel -> Programs:
There are now two "javas 6":
the old update 3 (from "Sun") te new update 24 (from "Oracle")
Whoops. But... same error.
Uninstalled update 3. Launched SH3D, same error. Uninstalled update 24, same error, reinstalled Java 6 update 24 "alone"... same error.
One funny thing is, other java programs work - at all times (java 6 installed or not!)
Anyway, the point where all went wrong was when I tried SH3D online, and the browser installed add-ons and failed doing so... then the installed SH3D stopped working at that point.
I'll be using SH3D on a 13' MacBook laptop, but the small screen defeats most of its purpose.
Re: [SOLVED] Java platform SE binary not responding
Hi,
got it. What was misleading was the error message. I used the paragraph in the FAQ section about another error message:
FAQ: "I got the message Sweet Home 3D will exit now because of a fatal error in 3D rendering system. What can I do?"
and I applied the second option in the third bullet, about dropping an INI file, and the problem was solved. I'm a happy camper now.
It would help to direct victims of the "Java platform SE binary not responding" syndrom to that particular FAQ point. I zeroed in on the solution by using another GPU (my laptop has two GPUs, an Nividia GeForce 7400, and a low-power Intel GPU, I used the Intel "slow" GPU and it worked, but it was very slow, my problem was with the fast GPU; understanding that it was a GPU issue and not a Java issue, I tried upgrading drivers (no result), OpenGL and DirectX (no result) and finally tried the INI trick.
The import of objects from the "3D models" page sometimes gives strange result, but hey, life goes on. A minor issue. Overall, I have an excellent impression of SH3D!
