Some Questions (Rendering, Ubuntu, 64bit,....CAD)
hello,
i ve some questions about sweethome3d, i hope anyone can answer.
- is it possible to make more as one picture with the rendering function? i mean, i position (2x or 3x or 4x,..)the camera like in the video menü and sweet home make over night the different rendering pictures and save this in a custom folder.
- how can i use sweet home under win7 (64bit) as 64bit-programm? i try it with ubuntu-64, but unfortunately ubuntu is nothing for me.
- is it possible to accelerate sweet home rendering (or rendering plugin: advance rendering) ? Win 64 bit, 6gb Ram, DualCore 2x 2gHz Pixel ~2000x1400 Glossy / Turn on celling lights / Turn on lamps / Glossy Floors --> 3,5 hours
thats very slow
- is it possible to export the building/room in a CAD compaible format, like *.stp / *.igs / *.sat / *.wrl / ... ?

Re: Some Questions (Rendering, Ubuntu, 64bit,....CAD)
Ralf,
I don't have all the answers, but here's a start.
1 - more pictures in one go Unfortunately that isn't possible: one picture at a time. But it's a good idea for a feature request.
2 -accelerate rendering There isn't a "turbo" button in SH3D, but there are a few things that you should bear in mind: - the more lights (lamps, bulbs, etc) you add, the longer the rendering takes - make all models invisible that will NOT be visible in the image you're taking; this reduces the rendering time considerably
3 - CAD compatible formats SH3D saves/exports its data in OBJ format. Your best guess would be to use Blender or on online service to convert your model to a different format.
And by the way... 3.5 hrs isn't exactly bad for a 2000x1400 pix picture (depending on the file size). Also, programs generally run faster under Ubuntu than they do under Windows (I'm a Ubuntu-64 user).

Ralf,
1 - To install SH3D: From the Download page:
Under Linux: Uncompress the downloaded file and run SweetHome3D application found in the uncompressed directory. To install Sweet Home 3D, move the uncompressed directory in the one of your choice.

Re: Some Questions (Rendering, Ubuntu, 64bit,....CAD)
where can i find the .etek folder?
First it's .eteks not .etek You don't have to create it. To install a SH3P or SH3L file under Linux, right click on the file and choose to open it with the SweetHome3D program found in its installation folder.
is it possible to accelerate sweet home rendering (or rendering plugin: advance rendering) ?
Prefer the built-in renderer to the advanced rendering plugin. From David's tests, it's much faster. Please read also the FAQHow can I speed up the rendering process in photo and video creation panes?
how can i use sweet home under win7 (64bit) as 64bit-programm?
See the FAQHow can I adjust the memory used by Sweet Home 3D?

Re: Some Questions (Rendering, Ubuntu, 64bit,....CAD)
Ralf,
Since you're new at Ubuntu, here are a few tips:
1 - To install SH3D you only have to unzip it. It will create a folder called SweetHome3D (or similar) with all the files and subfolders needed. You can place this folder wherever you want, because no programs point back to this folder. 2 - To run SH3D do this: open the folder in which SH3D is installed and look for the file called SweetHome3D. Its size is 771 bytes. Right-click on the file, select Properties, then click the tab Permissions. Make sure that the checkbox "Allow to run as a program" is active. Now close the dialog. Double-clicking the file SweetHome3D should run the program, although maybe you have to confirm this by clicking Run in a pop-up window. If all is well, you should now be able to use the program and make your first design. 3 - To find the .eteks folder, proceed as follows: open the file manager, then type CTRL-H on the keyboard. This shows all Hidden directories and files. Now you can locate the .eteks folder.
I hope this helps you get started.
