Triangular window/frame

I noticed from the beginning the absence or arches, as a functional element (creating a sizable hole). I get around this by either using the arch as an object (I found one available for library) or better, by using the (empty) door frame.
But when making roof levels, using sloping walls, I need a triangular hole in those sloping walls. I have no idea if it's possible for someone to make triangular windows or at least a right triangle frame...

Re: Triangular window/frame

No matter what shape of window you make, once you insert the window in a wall, SH3D will make a rectangular hole in the wall.

So, how to insert non-rectangular windows?
- Round(ed) windows: use one or two arches to complement the circular part(s) of your window until it is rectangular. Use Export to OBJ format to export the window, then import it again as furniture. Make sure to check the Door/window box.
- Triangular windows: use an upside-down triangle to complement your triangular window. Then export & import it. Make your own window using the Roof Tutorial (PDF) or look in the Sketchup Warehouse.
- Triangular top-window: the previous method obviously doesn't work for a window that sits directly under the roof top. Split your wall in two, make one side sloping. Split the other half of the wall in two again. The part next to the sloping wall should be horizontal, and the height is the greatest height of the wall minus the height of the window. The remaining part of the wall slopes again. On the horizontal part you can place (not insert) a triangular window.

Re: Triangular window/frame

Thanks for the detailed answer, hansmex.
I basically want to make a loft (if this is the right word) ending with a terrace under the roof, separated by a glass wall. So none of the options you described are doing it for me.
It would've been possible with a right triangle window or frame, but, as you say, that's impossible. It's only a small inconvenience.

Maybe in the future releases it will be possible to vary the transparency of independent wall units...

Re: Triangular window/frame

Your question was, correct me if I'm wrong, how to make a triangular hole in a sloping wall. Not, how to make an overhanging (or cantilevered) roof.

To make a cantilevered roof, you can use the "hatch" model. Imagine a rectangular room with an extra wall through the middle. Insert the hatch in the end wall, and make it as high and wide as the wall. The wall disappears, but the floor and roof remain. Insert your window in the middle wall. This would give a covered terrace.

Re: Triangular window/frame

Yes, I was asking how to make a triangular hole in a sloping wall. But I need to keep the slope visible, without a roof visible.

Now that I think again, I guess a triangular object (with a right angle on its base) made as a frame, empty (or with a glass structure) would work pretty well.
Two of them side by side, would fit any angle for roofs.
