How do I calculate total floor area or room square footages?

Hello,

I am new to Sweet Home and am really happy with the features.

How do I calculate the square footage of the total floor plan or individual rooms so that it displays on my plan? I have searched for the answer but would appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Chris

Click on the Create rooms tool and then double click on an exterior wall. This will create a room covering the whole home including the walls (it's not really a feature but you can use it in the current version 3.4). If you want something more accurate and you can program, you could create a plugin that will add the area of all the rooms.

Re: How do I calculate total floor area or room square footages?

Great, thank you. That works. But do you know if the area is calculated to the inside or outside of the perimeter walls and are there settings to adjust?

Has anyone created a plug-in to calculate area or sf for all rooms? Where could I check for developed plug-ins?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

Areas are calculated from the centerline of walls, i.e. the lines determined by the X,Y coordinates.

A tutorial, including a list, for all available plug-ins can be found here.

Moving the room area would have shown you that it includes the wall area (as said in my previous answer)

No, as far as I know.

Re: How do I calculate total floor area or room square footages?

If you draw a 10x10 box, it gives you 95 sf. Draw a line through it and it is less so it doesn't include interior walls. You have to take out for exterior walls too because it calculates it wrong. To find the exterior wall space of a 10x10 room, you must convert 3 in wall. divided by 12=.25 x 10=2.5, then times 4 is 10 sf. If it counted the exterior walls it would be 105 sf., not 95, is way off.

Matt, the displayed area of a room object doesn't take into account the other objects at its border or upon it.
