2D Furniture
Hi guys. Is there a way, in 2D plan, to have furniture that is the more traditional 2D symbol, e.g. toilet, bath, etc? This is an excellent piece of software but I can't see a way to do it. I appreciate that this is 3D software but I have a potential customer who wants this traditional plan. Many thanks in advance.

If the Top view option available in the preferences doesn't give you satisfying results, you can use your own icons in a customized furniture library file, but this will be much more tedious to prepare. See this thread for more information.

Thanks Emmanuel. Top view is definately an improvement. I wonder if any members here have already created 2d icons and would be willing to share them? It is really only for fixed furniture such as stairs, bathroom, and kitchen. A brief look at the older thread suggests that there is a separate icon file? Can these files be created in Inkscape?

Yes, it can be at JPEG, PNG, GIF or BMP format, even for this kind of icons, I wouldn't recommend using JPEG.

Thanks. I would probably use PNG since I assume there should be no background to the image. Just so I get a head start, what are the exact rules for creating this icon image? Will the icon auto resize if the furniture itself is resized?

Re: 2D Furniture
I think PNG with transparency is the best option too. The width / height of the icon will be resized to fill the piece surrounding rectangle, so there's no constraint on its proportions. The top views computed by Sweet Home 3D from the 3D models are actually stored with 128x128 pixels image in memory, but you could use larger or smaller images if required. Nevertheless, keep in mind that larger images = more memory used by the program.
