Rotate Room
Hello!
I'm attempting to put together a floorplan for my company using existing rooms which I've measured and entered into SH3D. Each room is a separate file. Also, a few of the rooms are not exactly square/rectangular, but have angled walls (you might say the rooms are "triangular"). Is it possible to select the floorplan from one file, paste it into a second file, and rotate the rooms to align with each other? If this is not currently possible, will this room rotation feature be available in a future release?
Thank you for your help! And keep up with the great work!

Re: Rotate Room
You should use the Advanced Editing plugin described in this document .

Re: Rotate Room
Chris,
If you install the RotateHome plug-in, there's a nice trick that's not documented (yet). Because the Levels feature didn't exist in SH3D at the time the plug-in was written, it was impossible to foresee how the plug-in would behave. It turns out that you can rotate the background plan and models per individual level.
This offers the possibility to import your model on a second level, rotate it to the correct position, then copy it to the level where you assemble your building.
By the way, you should note that the RotateHome plug-in rotates in 90 degree steps only. Maybe it's a good idea to ask the developer of the plug-in to add a feature to rotate in 1 degree increments.

Re: Rotate Room
Thank you very much for your input, Emmanuel and Hans! I will download and install the plugin first thing in the morning when I get to work! And I will definitely ask the developer of the plugin to add the 1-degree increments feature as I believe it will be quite valuable.

Re: Rotate Room
Oh great! I log in to ask this question and it is already here :-)
I have downloaded the plugin n extracted it. But the installation guide in the pdf file seems does not apply to Ubuntu OS.
My SH3D installation is very simple. I downloaded the 53.7mb file and than extract it. A new folder named SweetHome3D-4.0 appear. Inside this folder I click the SweetHome3D script file and the program start, and it been working fine.
Now the directory structure where the plugin folder is located is as this:- SweetHome3D-4.0/jre1.6.0_43/plugin
The extracted RotateHomePlugin contain 2 folders named dist & src. I place these folders in the plugin folder, and restart SH3D.
And nothing happen, the two additional options are not showing in the Plan menu.
I must be doing something wrong. Need guidance please... :-)

Re: Rotate Room
Gan,
Under Ubuntu do the following to install a plug-in: - if necessary unzip it - in Nautilus (the file browser) type CTRL-H to show the hidden files - go to .eteks/sweethome3d/plugins (if the plugins directory doesn't exist yet, make it) - move the plugin files to the plugins directory - start SH3D

Re: Rotate Room
Hi Hans,
Thank you. With the CTRL-H in the Home directory, I finally see the .eteks/sweethome3d/ :-)
Okay I created the plugins folder and place the unzipped RotateHomePlugin folder in it. But I don't see the additional items in the Plan menu.
So instead of the whole thing, I took just the two sub-folders from inside the RotateHomePlugin folder, and put it in the plugins folder. Still nothing. And I continue by just copying the items in the sub folders or from sub-sub folders into the plugin folder. Each time restarting the SH3D. Still no menu :-), what am I doing wrong?
Okay when you say ".. - move the plugin files to the plugins directory", do you mean the whole folder or just a file from inside this folder? Because when I unzip the downloaded RotateHomePlugin.zip, it produce a RotateHomePlugin folder, and contain inside it few more folders and sub-folders and files. Do I copy the whole unzipped RotateHomePlugin folder into plugins folder or just a files or two from inside it?
How many times have I typed "folder/s" here... :-) oh, feeling dizzy already.. :-D

Re: Rotate Room
I am still having trouble with the ROTATION you mentioned.
When I put on a new level, I can still only rotate grouped furniture... and only by 15 degree increments. How do you rotate the entire room? I can't get walls to rotate either. And of course you already mentioned the Rotate Plan only does 90 degrees.
Using Advanced Editing Plugin... I don't see how to rotate at all.

Re: Rotate Room
I’m having the same issue, has anyone come up with a working solution? I have tried unzipping the plug-in and copying the content into Home/.eteks/sweethome3d/plugins. I have restarted SH3D, but still I don’t see the new plug-in options. If anyone knows the answer to this problem, please respond. Thanks in advance.
