Closing walls above door openings
Without really knowing what I was doing, I was able to close walls above door openings after installing door frames and doors. But can walls be closed above room-to-room openings that have no doors? Also any tips on closing walls above actual doors would be welcomed. I can somehow muddle through it but don't understand what I'm doing.

Re: Closing walls above door openings
Harold,
In step 3 of the procedure for importing furniture you can define whether your model is a door or window. This means that when a door or window is inserted into a wall, the walls makes an opening that fits the object. If you need just a hole in the wall, you could use an invisible box, or a hatch from the 3D models page.
Maybe it's a good idea to read the User's guide and use the Help pages of the program.

Re: Closing walls above door openings
hansmex,
I see I have been doing door openings the wrong way. The floor plan that I scanned into the 2D View pane showed interruptions in walls for the doors, so I made the walls with those openings in place. When I dragged and dropped a door frame into one of those openings, the walls snapped right around it and then I dragged and dropped a door into the frame. That all worked very well but it left an opening in the wall above the door. I put the program back into Wall mode and was able to pull the walls together over the door so it looked just right. Because this gave the desired result, I assumed it was the right way to do it. But, from what you say, I guess I should have made my walls without door openings and then dragged and dropped a door into a wall and it would have created an opening without the empty space above the door. I did read the User's Guide and the Help pages but I didn't catch on that doors were covered under 'importing furniture'and missed that procedure. The instructions I read didn't seem to conflict with what I did.
I will now redo the doorless openings between rooms to make solid walls and then find an 'invisible box' to drag and drop on the walls. If it is adjustable to make openings in the walls of the right size and that don't extend to the full heights of the walls I'll have what I am trying to accomplish.

But why don't you simply use doors and windows provided with the program and in the furniture libraries?

Re: Closing walls above door openings
Emmanuel Puybaret,
I did use the doors and windows provided with the program but I used them in a different way than is intended because my plan view (background) that I scanned into the 2D pane had interruptions in the walls where the doors are and I slavishly followed those interruptions when I made the walls. It actually works pretty well because when I dragged and dropped a door into one of those interruptions the wall closed up around it except at the top. I then found you can pull the wall right over the top if you keep things lined up well and it results in a seamless door in the wall. Now that I've become aware of how it was intended to be done, i.e., drag and drop a door or window right into a solid wall, I use that method because it is far easier.
I got the doorless openings in walls that I was asking about by dragging and dropping door frames into the walls without putting any doors in the frames. It doesn't look exactly like the actual apartment I'm modeling because in the apartment there are no door frames in the openings but it's pretty close.

But, as Hansmex told you, you can get openigs without frames just using the "service hatch" object from the library.

Or just a previously exported invisible box which you mark as door/window in the re-import process.

I'll try the 'service hatch' object or 'invisible box' for getting wall openings without frames. Right now, I'm nowhere near putting in finishing touches and the frames are barely noticeable in the 3D view.
