Importing 3d Models

I have created a 3D model for a piece I need in the Art of Illusions. The Sweet Home 3D document mentions that one could import the models made in the Art of Illusions. But I don't know how to do it and I wonder if I get get help with instructions on how to import a model made in the Art of Illusions into Sweet Home 3D.

Thanks A Lot.

Re: Importing 3d Models

Export model from Art of Illusion to Wavefront .obj file. Import (drag-drop or Furniture>Import Furniture or Ctrl+Shift+I) to SH3d. (If you have different materials, you should also check the box for writing materials to .mtl file.)

Pay attention to the dimensions of your imported model when you import it.

Good luck.

Re: Importing 3d Models

Thank you Okh. Your instructions were great and it worked. The only problem I have now is that while I see the 3d model in Sweet Home 3d, in the view plan I don't see it set right, just a point. I am working on it.

Pay attention to the size of the object when you import it.

Re: Importing 3d Models

I've been importing models from Sketchup for over a year with only an occasional problem. A few hours ago, I imported another piece of furniture just fine, but every item since has turned to a deep pink color when I get it into SH3d. Could this be a problem on the import side or on the export side? Scratching my head . . . confused

Re: Importing 3d Models

I've shared images on my Google+ page, if that helps. Sorry, I'm not computer-savvy enough to know how to link you directly to the file. I built the desk in Sketchup, decided on a different stain color, but it came out pink in SH3d. I like pink, but not on my furniture. I've since tried several other pieces of furniture and all turn pink. enmnomad@gmail.com

- can you later change the colours / textures once you have imported your (pink) models into sh3d?
- did you use any strange names for the coulours (try using only a-z, no spaces)?
- which version of Sketchup do you use and did you upgrade lately?

If you share an offending model in the sketchup 3d warehouse and post a link here, it is easier to check whether it is a SH3D issue. I tested one desk you posted in the 3D warehous - that was imported with correct colours / textures in SH3D 4.2 (via DAE export from Sketchup 8 free).

Re: Importing 3d Models

It changes the entire model to pink. For example, an upholstered piece of furniture with wood legs: When I try to change the color it makes the entire piece all upholstery or all wood tone. The colors went through fine when I uploaded from sketchup and uploaded from elsewhere in my computer.

Here's a link to one of the offending pieces. Looks fine here, but turns all pink in SH3d.
