cool 3 ways to create a simple stair for quick use (Basic Tutorial).

Hi all,
Here I would like to share some basic idea to create a stair with in SweetHome3D.
It will be useful if you want to show previews or you don't get the model that the one you are searching in the internet.
(This tutorial is mainly for new users of SweetHome3D which have slightly know the application and it will not cover a detailed modeling of stair/staircase). d oh

Method 1.
First you want to calculate and find how many tread and riser in your staircase and its values.
Step. 1
Then create new level by Plan -> Add level.
Step. 2
Go to Plan-Modify level. Set Elevation = 90cm and Floor thickness = 90cm(It is the width of the stair). and Height =0.5cm
We will draw stair in this new level.(To avoid mistake/new user with levels then set previous Level 0 Elevation = 0 and Height=0.5cm## I am not good with levels.)
Step. 3
Now using create rooms tool in plan menu, start drawing for your stair that look like a section drawing which have the same tread and riser that you calculated.
Note that If the stair is L shape or U shape or any other then you want to create and export each sections separately.
Step. 4
Now click(Plan-> modify rooms) on the stair drawing set name as stair, disable both Display area and Display ceiling and make sure Display floor is selected and pick a color for it. Hit OK
Step. 5
Keep selected go to 3D view ->Export to OBJ format and save selected objects.
Step. 6
Come to Furniture menu and click Import furniture wizard choose your saved stair.
Step. 7
Click continue button and in the next interface click down arrow as shown below.

(chosen arrow may different with your drawing direction so confirm in the perspective view is the one that you want).
Step. 8
If the perspective view is ok then click continue and in the next window select tick box staircase and click continue to finish.

Now you can choose color or texture and your basic Stair is ready.

Method 2.
Step. 1
Go to File -> preferences, set the New wall thickness = 1cm and New wall height = 90cm
Step. 2
Click once on the 2D drawing window , move mouse upwards and press Enter key on keyboard then enter your Riser height(18 or something like you wish) and Enter again.Similarly Enter your Tread width(may be 21) by moving mouse right and keyboard Enter and type value and Enter to set it.
Step. 3
Continue drawing and close/finish your section of stair.

Step. 4
Check and adjust your first Riser height and last Tread width (0.5cm or Half of your wall thickness).
Step. 5
To fill the gap in walls use Add level and configure its Elevation and Floor thickness = 90,Height =0.5 (Method.1,->Step 1 and Step 2). Then select level 0 and double click with create room tool, inside walls(walls must be closed)or manually draw a room. Cut and paste the created room from level 0 to level 1.
Step. 6
Select all and go to Plan->Modify walls and apply different colors for Left, Right and Top sides of the wall. Also Plan->Modify rooms and apply color for floors too.
Step. 7
Now you can export the walls and room/floor of the stair together like Method 1 step 5 to step 8.
(Export then rotate at the time importing and mark as staircase, then use It.)

Method 3.
Step. 1
Go to File -> preferences, set the New wall thickness = Your Tread width(21cm or like you wish) and New wall height = Your Riser height (18cm for me).
Step. 2
Draw a wall at a length of same of your stair width(90cm commonly)and finish.
Step. 3
Go to Plan->Modify walls and apply different colors for each Left, Right and Top sides of the wall.
Step. 4
By holding Ctrl+Shift move wall upwards the number of times util you reach the total number of treads in your stair.
Step. 5
Edit each walls height according to the multiple of first Riser.

Step. 6(choice for step. 4)
If you don't want to fill the bottom of steps then export the first step as obj format and Import as furniture without any rotation or change. Then make multiple copies by Ctrl+Shift+Move and then adjust each steps height

Hand Rails
Step.1
Use cylinder or box instead of wall with attaching a ball to it. Then export and import it with rotation feature then make multiple

copy and arrange it. Then Group together and move to the other side.
(If you understood method 2 properly or the method for modeling and importance of drawing direction and rotation angle while importing then you can create the handrail model so simply.)

Tip idea
*Apply colors for each sides then apply texture after finishing importing can help to adjust texture rotation and tile properly.
*Coloring can make your model attractive.
*Grouping can speed up work sometimes.
*Try to apply all method together can create verity of models.
*Get skill can improve work not only stair modeling.

Now make a different stair for me. cool
Thanks for reading.. shhh
