As LuxCoreRender has active development and is fully open source and free, I think it makes sense to move to this render engine, instead of the current no-development and slow render engine.
The big benefit is it also supports GPU rendering.
More info can be found on the LuxCoreRender website.

Re: Replace render engine with LuxCoreRender
Looks really interesting, but i think it's not as easy to change as it sounds in your post... But you're absolutely right, working with a no-longer-developed engine will end in a death-end...

Re: Replace render engine with LuxCoreRender
LuxRender / LuxCoreRender was one of the engines we tested in our search for an engine faster than SunFlow. Unfortunately, our first tests with this engine weren't really wonderful...

Re: Replace render engine with LuxCoreRender
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think we'll try more engines during a while. Please understand that the study we published took already some time to be achieved...

Re: Replace render engine with LuxCoreRender
Hi, Just wondering if there'd been any updates to the 3D renderer in the past 5 years? Luxcor and others will have progressed, so would be interested to see if you've tested or are releasing any new ones. The old style / less photo realistic 3D visuals are one of only 3 things making me want to find a different product (that, plus no staircase designer and no roof designer).

YafaRay rendering engine was added to Sweet Home 3D 7.0 last year. And about other features, check plug-ins page…
